This Show Is Tonight: Zolita brings weekend alt-pop to Cambridge

The kaleidoscopic alt-pop of Zolita usually makes us feel like it’s the weekend, so it’s no surprise the New York-born, California-raised songwriter and artist is playing the Friday afternoon slate at this spring’s Boston Calling. But fresh off the recent release of her Falling Out / Falling In EP, Zolita brings some weekend vibes to the midweek malaise with a sold-out stop tonight (February 22) at Sonia in Cambridge.

We last caught up with Zolita exactly a year ago, when she was unfolding her forbidden rom-com adventure through a lens of pitch-perfect modern pop; now, she’s got a certain “Crazy Ex” to deal with. But it’s cool.

“‘Crazy Ex’ is the most nostalgic, pop-punk song on the EP, reminiscent of the iconic bangers that soundtracked rom-coms of the early 2000s,” Zolita says “Thematically it’s the most unhinged — and came to be when I imagined what my breakup would have been like had I been ‘the crazy ex’ and acted on every petty impulse I had.”

Get into all that, as well as the EP, below, and kick it back with our photo gallery of Zolita’s 2019 romp at Sonia, when she rolled into town with XYLØ and Jane Holiday.
