Editor’s Note: The January blues are all but finished, and it feels so good. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy in and around the city continues to climb higher than that electric bill, and we’re here to help you take a bit of a breather from the first-of-the-year stresses. Live entertainment continues to make its way back into our social lives — mask up! stay safe! — and so we always want to make sure you know about cool stuff going on in the world of comedy. Taylor Tomlinson at Wang Theatre
Tomlinson remains as unbeatable of a force as ever in her latest hour, while somehow shedding another layer of vulnerability with yet another deeply personal hour on her Have It All tour. Honesty is embedded in the her comedic DNA, and you’d be hard-pressed to find another artist who can swing that with the confidence and poise that Tomlinson has consistently demonstrated over the years. She’s already made a major impact in the industry, and it really seems like she’s just getting started.

Scott Seiss at Off Cabot
From our screens with his all-too-relatable sketches about the frustrations of retail work, to the stage with his quick wit and energetic stand-up delivery, Seiss is no stranger to comedy, but has really made a name for himself in the scene just over these last few years. And as he makes his way back to the area, with his first major film role knocking on the door no less thanks to the upcoming Cocaine Bear movie, the Baltimore native is poised to capitalize big time on his growing fame both within the area and all around the country.

Bert Kreischer at TD Garden
Saturday night in Boston with Bert? Let the games begin, indeed. The Machine’s long line of sold-out shows in Boston over the years offer just a glimpse into the titanic evolution that America’s favorite shirtless party animal has undergone. From The Wilbur to the Wang, and now to the legendary grounds of TD Garden, Kreischer continues to etch his name into the cobblestone of the rich comedy road that runs through the city with a fully sold out show. What makes it an even bigger feat is that, regardless of room size, Kreischer always seems to keep things up close and intimate. Tops off and bottoms up.

Big Jay Oakerson at The Wilbur
There are few things in life that are inevitable, and one of them just so happens to be Oakerson being consistent in waxing poetically grotesque. As one of the best joke writers and storytellers in the game, Big Jay doesn’t look to be holding anything back this time around, per usual, so don’t miss your chance to witness an absolute clinic on comedy killing.
