Few new artists have made our heads turn and bop in 2022 quite like Precious Pepala. The English teenager from Sheffield crashed our pages in October with anthemic and mindful single “Looking For Trouble,” a magnetic alt-pop that might turn back up on this screen during Year in ReView week. But Precious isn’t calling it a year just yet, and this past Friday (December 2) she dropped a firecracker of a tune called “Voices”; where “Looking For Trouble” swirled around over rape culture and the dangers a woman fears when out in society, here the concern is turned inward through a bold display of brave lyricism and pop drama.
“‘Voices’ is a song about being afraid of your own mind and not wanting to be left alone with your thoughts,” says Precious. “Recently, I’ve been relating to the lyrics in this song a little too much — especially during the last couple of years when a lot of us have had much more time alone than usual. Our minds can be very dark places at times, but despite the song’s dark nature, I hope it brings comfort to people who feel the same way in knowing that they are not alone or unusual.”
Enter the mood entrenched deep inside her head below, and prepare to watch the world come to her in 2023.
