Editor’s Note: Welcome to V3 Weekend, Vanyaland‘s guide to help you sort out your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations across our three pillars of Music, Comedy, and Film/TV. It’s what you should know about, where you need to be, and where you’ll be going, with us riding shotgun along the way.
Music: Music Marketplace at Bone Up Brewing Company
Usually we hype concerts in this space, but we’re shifting gears ever so slightly to post up this weekend at Bone Up Brewing Company in Everett. After hosting tonight’s (November 4) listening party for Rah Zen’s Upon the Apex album, Light of Day Records returns to the taproom for Music Marketplace on Saturday (November 5), a vinyl summit and pop-up shop with all sorts of immersive exhibits. Here’s Bone Up with the details: “Music is very much a part of the brewery, but we just don’t hang out with bands… Grab a cup of joe from El Colombiano Coffee Roasters and strap in! For this day of music-related fun, we have SJC Drums offering a drum demo featuring a few of their custom drums. Source Audio will be here with pedals. Light of Day Records will present a vinyl summit offering a pop up vinyl shop, collector tips, care advice, and a general Q&A along with slinging some records for all you wax enthusiasts!” There will also be a DJ setup and Decimation Deli serves up heat with their sandwiches and hot sauce. So this seems like a good way to spend a Saturday.

Comedy: Nate Bargatze at Wang Theatre
Another weekend, another banner stretch of top-shelf live comedy options around the city, with David Cross, Laura Severse, and Michael Ian Black hitting the stage across the region. Jason Greenough hyped all of those in this week’s Mic’d Up, and here we’re shining our pink spotlight on Nate Bargatze’s double-shot at the The Wang this Saturday and Sunday (November 5 and 6). As Greenough writes: “A new hour, a new setting, and the same ol’ Bargatze in all the best ways. The Tennessee native’s ascension in the comedy world isn’t shocking at all, but still impressive given the very straight-forward, no-frills approach he’s maintained throughout his career. Not to mention, it’s a rarity to find a generally clean comedian hit the level of stardom Bargatze has achieved, but with each new special he releases, it’s not hard to realize why it’s happening.”
NATE BARGATZE :: Saturday, November 5 and Sunday, November 6 at The Wang Theatre, 270 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 7:30 p.m., $39.75 to $99.75 :: Advance tickets
Film/TV: Friday the 13th Part 2 + Hellbound: Hellraiser II at The Brattle
Hear us out. Yes, we know that Halloween was Monday, and now we’re a few days deep into November. But the day-of-the-week placement of October 31 on the 2022 calendar means this is still technically Halloween Week, and The Brattle in Cambridge has an extended horror fix tonight (November 4) with a double screening of Friday The 13th Part 2 and Hellbound: Hellraiser II. This double dose of scary sequels isn’t the Harvard Square theater look back, but instead gazing forward, as the showings kick off its Sequel-itis: Terrific Twos series that continues all week with Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Aliens, The Godfather Part II and more. Here’s the word: “Inspired by the rare 35mm screening of Hellbound: Hellraiser II that kicks off this series, we’re taking some time to celebrate the sequels to some of our favorite films from across genres. Many of these titles are considered to be equal (or, in some cases, superior) to their predecessors and a couple (looking at you 2 Fast 2 Furious and Grease 2) are maybe overdue for a reassessment. In any case, we hope you enjoy this brief voyage into the Part 2 universe!”
‘FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2’ + ‘HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER II’ : Friday, November 4 at The Brattle, 40 Brattle St. in Cambridge, MA :: Friday the 13th at 5 and 9:15 p.m.; Hellraiser at 7 p.m. :: Brattle event page and advance tickets
