Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds enlist Johnny Marr for ‘Pretty Boy’

Johnny Marr is everywhere. Shortly after bringing the music of The Smiths — and his own ace solo material — to the masses via a North American tour with The Killers, the guitarist has now linked up with Noel Gallagher for a collaboration on a moody new Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds‘ track called “Pretty Boy.”

Gallagher’s got a new HFB album coming out eventually, the follow-up to 2017’s Who Built The Moon? and last year’s best-of comp Back The Way We Came: Vol 1 (2011-2021), and “Pretty Boy” sets a nice tone, with more of a direct-line post-punk propulsion than the boisterous psych-rock stuff of his recent output.

“For this new record it was the first thing I wrote, the first thing I demoed and the first thing I finished, so it’s only right that it’s the first thing people get to hear,” Gallagher says. “Massive shout out to my mainest man Johnny Marr for taking it somewhere special. Oh… and watch out for a cameo from me in the video: First one to spot me wins a bag of Flamin’ Hot Wotsits Giants!”
