Earlier this week we were stoked to see Fontaines D.C. listed as openers of Arctic Monkeys’ 2023 North American tour, which hits TD Garden in September. But before the Irish post-punk band from Dublin City warms up the big stage for Alex Turner here in Boston, they’ve got a score to settle with our fair city on their own terms, and the beat goes down tonight (October 6) at House of Blues. This is the re-scheduled date from back in April, where Fontaines’ Paradise gig was postponed after frontman Grian Chatten was diagnosed with laryngitis. Their acclaimed third album Skinty Fia, released around the time of the ‘Dise gig, has continued to elevate the band’s profile, so it’s no surprise to see them waltz down Commonwealth Avenue to the larger room, suggesting the line in “Jackie Down The Line” is in fact MBTA Green. Skinty Fia is a pure 2022 AOTY contender, so post up to the Fenway and raise a glass to one of Ireland’s new finest.
