A massive six-alarm fire Sunday morning (October 3) damaged several triple-deckers in Dorchester, including the childhood home of the Wahlberg family at 25 Peverell St., where Donnie and Mark Wahlberg grew up.
According to WBZ News Radio, strong winds caused the blaze to spread to multiple buildings in the area of Cushing Avenue and Peverell, bringing more than 120 firefighters to the scene, forcing 15 residents across four separate addresses to become displaced, and causing more than $2 million in damages.
Boston Fire Dept. tweeted that two firefighters suffered minor injuries from the fire, and a civilian was also treated.
WCVB Channel 7 reports the fire broke out around 10 a.m., and spoke to Boston Fire Commissioner Paul Burke about the incident. “It was a total of four, three-deckers that were on fire, mostly in the rear of the buildings on the porches,” Burke says, via WCVB. “It’s a tight street. They couldn’t get an aerial ladder up here because of the wires on the poles here. It’s a very tight street, so they needed the labor to get going and get everybody in place… It was a tough fire.”
No cause has been determined as of press time.
In 2018, while Mark Wahlberg was filming Netflix film Wonderland, the actor and producer visited the front steps to his “old crib” at 25 Peverell St. The following year he returned, and described the home as “where it all started.” Watch his Instagram posts below.
