Alvvays ask if it’s ‘Easy On Your Own?’ and without them the answer is no

There was simply no doubt that Alvvays‘ forthcoming third studio album Blue Rev — named for the sugary alcoholic beverage Molly Rankin and Kerri MacLellan used to drink as teens on rural Cape Breton and out October 7 via Polyvinyl — would be one of the standout releases not only of the fall, but the entire year. In July, the iconic Toronto band treated us to the LP’s opening track, a noisy guitar-pop number called “Pharmacist”, and today (August 10) we are blessed with the second cut, and second single. It’s a swirling, revved-up rollercoaster of a track titled “Easy On Your Own?” that’s blissed out on Alvvays’ signature brand of tidal indie rock. It pulls us right in, its chorus like a warm hug from an old friend, and takes us places we weren’t sure we needed to go. Swandive into it below, and be sure to snag tickets in advance to the band’s November 18 show at Roadrunner in Boston. We’re declaring it this year’s Thanksgiving. Sorry, pilgrim.
