Camp Cope are kicking off a summer North American tour in Boston this week — Friday (July 8) at The Paradise Rock Club — and the Australian trio are crashing our shores with their first-ever music video. It’s for “Running with the Hurricane,” the title track to their March album out via Boston’s own Run For Cover Records. The visual was directed by collaborator James J. Robinson and Rachael Morrow, and filmed on Wurundjeri land.

“It’s like a moment in time for us as a band,” Camp Cope say. “We were getting ready to fly out to the U.S. for our first international tour since the pandemic started. Kelly is six months pregnant in it and keeps rocking out. Jenny, who has started playing guitar live with us graciously said yes to being in it. We really wanted to capture the energy of the song, and that sometimes the only way out is up. And who doesn’t like to get dressed up and do funny things with leaf blowers all day?”

Add Robinson and Morrow in a statement: “We love Camp Cope because sonically they can pull you out of a spiral of self-doubt, using both vulnerability and power as their weapons. With the video, we wanted to translate that to a visual language: Walking the fine line between being candid but intentional, empowering but sincere, serious but also very not-serious. We wanted to try and capture even a percentage of the song’s superpower — the reminder that you’re going to be okay, even though it feels like the world’s collapsing around you.”

On this run of stateside shows, Camp Cope also link up with Lucy Dacus for a trio of supporting gigs, and also play Pitchfork Music Festival on July 15.
