It’s Nina Nesbitt’s world, we’re just tryna stay up late, eat all the snacks, and live our best lives deep inside it. The Scottish alt-pop comet — who dazzled our Year in ReView coverage with uber-jam “Life’s A Bitch” — returns to our hearts, minds, and playlists today (June 8) with a sky-dancer of a tune called “Pressure Makes Diamonds,” arriving with a rural romp video directed by Wolf James. It’s another display of Nesbitt’s alt-pop cool, and this one’s “about trying to navigate my way through the societal pressures I started to feel as a woman in my mid-20s,” she says.
That mood sets a tone for Nesbitt’s new album, Älskar, set for release September 2 via Cooking Vinyl. The title comes from the Swedish word for “to love,” a nod to Nesbitt’s half-Swedish heritage. And there’s a lot to unpack.
“Making this album was a completely different experience to anything I’ve made before, although a lot of the music was created remotely, I feel that I’ve processed so much and learnt a lot about the relationships in my life during the last few years,” Nesbitt adds. “I wanted to capture all types of love in their raw forms, whether it be romantic, heartbreak, friendship, coming of age, familial or self-love.”
Get into it.
