A few weeks back we learned that The National were part of the inaugural lineup for Sound on Sound, a new music festival going down this September in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Now, the NYC band has announced additional shows as part of a summer tour, and there are quite a few road trip-worthy destinations for those of us in Boston — and a show right here in our Brighton backyard.
“We are excited to finally share our full tour itinerary for summer 2022,” declare The National. “The last couple years have given us ample time for reflection and rejuvenation. Summer 2022 is a time for reunion. We look forward to gathering with friends, old and new. United in music and light, suspended in time. We hope you can join us.”
In addition to the Sound on Sound appearance, other dates around the New England area include July 19 at The Green at Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, Vermont; July 21 at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine; July 22 at Newport Folk Festival at Rhode Island’s Fort Adams State Park; and September 22 at Roadrunner in Brighton.
Tough shit, New Hampshire. Maybe next time.
Tickets to the non-festival shows go on sale Friday (April 1) at 10 a.m. EDT local time. The National have also revealed that $1 from each ticket sold will benefit the PLUS1 Ukraine Relief Fund, which supports Ukrainians “through effective grassroots nonprofits providing humanitarian aid, refugee support and access to critical information,” according to a press release, as well as Buffalo String Works, praised for “their work to ignite personal and community leadership through accessible, youth-centered music education.”
