Editor’s Note: Even in the dead of winter, there is never a shortage of comedy shows to check out around Boston, as homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlight the calendar. As live entertainment slowly makes its way back into our social lives — mask up! stay safe! — we always want to make sure you know about cool stuff going on in the world of comedy. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (April 3).
Chris Rock at The Wilbur
Fresh off the Oscars Slap Heard ‘Round The World — and ahead of his highly-anticipated “Ego Death” world tour — the stand-up legend sets up shop on Tremont Street to bring the comedy rain, as Chris Rock does, for six sold-out shows. As it’s not a common occurrence that Rock takes The Wilbur stage, it’s a moment that is to be celebrated not only because the bonafide comedy icon is bringing his latest hour to the city after five years away, but also because it’s not every day that Boston gets the opportunity to see such an industry titan in such an intimate setting. And after what just went down at the Academy Awards, an even brighter spotlight will be on these appearances.
Wednesday, March 30 to Friday, April 1 at The Wilbur Theatre, 246 Tremont St. in Boston :: 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. (all nights) :: Tickets are $51 to $71
Comic Vs. Comic at Laugh Boston
Well, it’s been more than two years since the last edition of this fan-favorite show, so there’s bound to be a lot of pent-up verbal jousts, right? One can only hope. Make your way to Laugh Boston for some midweek restoration, and to see comedy comrades deliver light-hearted jabs by the truckload in good fun.
Wednesday, March 30 at Laugh Boston, 425 Summer St. in Boston :: 8 p.m. :: Tickets are $20
Last Podcast On The Left at Chevalier Theatre
For anyone familiar with the smash-hit podcast, it’s almost a guarantee that things are about to get weird in Medford in all the best ways. Covering a myriad of possible topics, the only people that know where this is going are hosts Ben Kissel, Marcus Parks and Henry Zebrowski, and that is equal parts intriguing, scary and exciting — all in the best ways possible.
Thursday, March 31 to Friday, April 1 :: Chevalier Theatre, 30 Forest St. in Medford, MA :: 8 p.m. both nights :: Tickets are $25 to $155
Ryan Sickler at Laugh Boston
Joining a blue collar every-man attitude with an unshakably funny penchant for verbal illustration and storytelling, the Honey Dew podcast host will have full control of the Seaport for five shows this week, and that means you have five chances to see one of the most consistently crushing comics on the grind today up close and in action.
Thursday, March 31 to Saturday, April 2 :: Laugh Boston, 425 Summer St. in Boston :: 8 p.m. on Thursday; 7:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. on Friday and Saturday :: Tickets are $25 to $29
Brendan Sagalow at Nick’s Comedy Stop
There’s still so much that can be said about the comedic power found in Sagalow’s debut album, Not Now More Than Ever, and that only makes his trip to Boston this week all the more exciting. Catch of one of the toughest hustling comics on the east coast at one of the most iconic stand-up spots in the country. You will not be disappointed as Sagalow brings a modern-day relatability with a comedy intellect commonly found well beyond his years.
Friday, April 1 at Nick’s Comedy Stop, 100 Warrenton St. in Boston :: 8 p.m. :: Tickets are $20
