Charlotte Sands rallies around the suburban outsiders on ‘Lost’

Last time we caught up with Charlotte Sands, the fast-rising Massachusetts-born artist was skillfully weaving an alt-pop life-lesson storyline on January EP Love and Other Lies. Fast forward a few short weeks — and past an appearance at Boston’s House of Blues opening for Yungblud — and she’s back today (March 4) with another blistering tune fueled by pop-punk ambition and acerbic lyricisms. This time it’s a sonic lightning bolt called “Lost,” and when she sings about her upbringing in the New England suburbs, well, it’s hard to not relate to it.

“‘Lost’ is about the challenges of growing up and the feeling of being an outsider,” says Sands. “It’s the story of adolescence and a celebration of the differences that so often end up bringing us together over time. This song is for the losers, the loners, and everyone in between.”

They’ll be shouting this one out everywhere from Newburyport to Northampton.

Sands heads out on the road this month with The Maine, and she’s earned a sweet spot on the Saturday slate of May’s Boston Calling Music Festival, where she’ll share the stage with The Strokes, Run The Jewels, Orville Peck, KennyHoopla, and others. “Lost” should sound wonderful under that spring sunshine.
