Oliver Tree plants a flag for the ‘Freaks & Geeks’ around the world

Screengrab

There are two options here: One, you can make like a tree and leave; or two, you can make like Oliver Tree and rally around all the freaks and geeks across the neighborhood. Those who are still reading this after that absolutely dogshit lede are probably opting for the latter, as the California artist has dropped a new anthem for the outlaw misfit in all of us. It’s titled “Freaks & Geeks,” it’s the latest from his new album Cowboy Tears (out February 18 via Atlantic), and it’s some weird-ass mix of lo-fi ’90s alt-rock and the type of zig-zag country music you never knew you needed.

“I’m a weirdo, I’m a freak, no matter who I try to be,” declares Tree with hopeful abandon. “I change my life. I change my ways. I always wanted better days.”

We believe him! Check out the video below, where Tree canvases an unsuspecting neighborhood on a pink couch with a trusted furry by his side. And be sure to be at Boston’s House of Blues on March 11, when Tree makes a visit to the ‘hood we call our own.
