‘Weird’ Al Yankovic’s ‘unfortunate return’ is a big deal for diehard fans

The time of the year has come where we frantically check the forecast every morning. But in terms of the forecast next May, it looks like things are going to get “Weird” in Medford.

As announced last week, parody master and pop-culture deity “Weird Al” Yankovic will be making his way to Medford’s Chevalier Theatre for two shows as part of his Unfortunate Return of the Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour, on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7. If the extended title didn’t give it away, The Weird One’s next trek will bring back the stripped-down and laid-back nature of his wildly successful 2018 tour, during which he performed almost exclusively original works and covers, as opposed to parodies. Also taken out of the playbook from the first go-around, comedian Emo Phillips will open every show.

Speaking of “White & Nerdy,” actually, both Brian Posehn and Jim Gaffigan recently announced their respective returns to the area, with Gaffigan making his way to Massachusetts for a split visit between The Chevalier on Wednesday, April 20 and a doubleheader at The Wilbur on Friday, April 22 as part of his Fun Tour. Posehn will be posting up at The Wilbur on Friday, April 29 after a hot minute away from the area. With a new hour, and most likely a lot of reasons to throw up the mëtal horns, a warm welcome for the towering comedy mastermind is well overdue.

Adding to the Wilbur’s consistently potent schedule in 2022, Indian comedy phenom Kanan Gill is bringing his highly-praised stand-up chops to The Wilbur on Friday, April 1. Sure, the show may fall on a suspicious date, but don’t be fooled — Gill is the real deal.

And last but certainly not least, Nikki Glaser returns for what we hope is another full house on Tremont Street as she brings her latest batch of material to the Boston comedy cathedral on Friday, May 20, before viral sensation and stand-up hustler Anthony Rodia makes his Wilbur debut on Saturday, May 28.

Tickets for all shows can be accessed for presale now, using the code VANYA, before they hit general on-sale on Friday (December 10).
