You probably know that we’re coming up on the 50-year anniversary of the Moon landing (now would be a great time to go out and watch First Man like all of you should have when it was in theaters last October) and, what’s a better way for film fans to celebrate than with a brand new look at James Gray’s space odyssey Ad Astra? Well, you could go and check out Apollo 11, which we haven’t seen yet (we know, we know), but, hey, this new trailer, released by the Zombie 20th Century Fox earlier on Thursday morning, will provide you with a ton of fodder for your ever-growing imagination. And, besides, isn’t that what science-fiction is for?
Here’s the trailer:
One thing that we can say for sure about this new trailer is that it looks “Rad” Pitt. We’re joking, of course, but this does look cool as hell. That chase on the Moon? The dusty, dirty outposts on Mars and the Lunar surface that ripped straight out of Peter Hyams’ Outland? We are one hundred percent here for it, y’all, and we’re also interested to see how this will pair up with Gray’s other films about exploration, namely The Lost City of Z, which we fell head over heels for. If he can do that with Charlie Hunnam, just imagine what he can do with an actor of Pitt’s caliber surrounded by an ensemble that prestigious.
Here’s a synopsis:
“Astronaut Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.”
Ad Astra hits theaters on September 20. Here’s to hoping that it plays TIFF.
