HarpoonFest Spotlight: Dutch Tulips
What Vanyaland Says: Picture this — it’s Saturday, just after 1 p.m. in the afternoon down in the Seaport, spring has finally freakin’ sprung, and you’re clutching your not-your-first Harpoon as the ‘Fest in its honor revs up its second day of music. Dutch Tulips hit the stage, and the cool blast hitting your face is either the water’s wind off the harbor or the Boston quartet’s infectious brand of rock and roll. You don’t care which it is, you’re just enjoying the moment.
We’ve been sweet on Dutch Tulips ever since Studio 52 hyped us to their presence in a February 2018 spotlight, and all the band did after that was release another lovely EP of the type of fuzzy, melodic guitar-rock on which this city has built its scene on. Tracks like “Hamlet Omelette” and “Worms” stick with you long after each listen, their jangle-pop smarts dancing around a fidgety bloom of guitar hooks. This year’s HarpoonFest lineup is absolutely stacked, but it might be Dutch Tulips who walk away having earned the greatest number of new devotees. Feel that breeze.
