HarpoonFest Spotlight: Paper Citizen

What Vanyaland Says: The longer Paper Citizen frontwoman Claire Gohst steadies herself in Boston, the stronger she becomes. As you may have already read in our past articles, the Singapore-born singer, violinist, guitarist, and producer moved to the U.S. in 2013, pursuing a education at Berklee after her parents kicked her out of their home when they discovered she was gay.  “I took a leap of faith with a glowing face,” she sings on her track “Shkn,” opening her 2018 EP Distraction with a line that could be applied to literally every aspect of her equally luminous career.

Gohst further solidifies her place in the scene on Friday (May 17) as a performer at HarpoonFest 2019 in the Seaport District, joining other staples of Greater Boston music to share her pensive spin on indie.  As we noted of Paper Citizen’s latest release, a new version of their 617Sessions tune “Hands Dirty”: “The swirling indie serenade presents the struggle of finding solace despite the ever-moving hands of the clock and the personal transformation that time brings.”
