Editor’s Note: As Olivia O’Brien performed live Wednesday night (April 10) at The Sinclair in Cambridge, a giant neon light glowed in script as her stage backdrop: “was it even real?” For fans of the 19-year-old pop singer from California, there was never any doubt. O’Brien is set to release her debut studio album, its title asking that very question, later this month, and it should generate global accolades for the rising star. But for one night in Harvard Square this week, things felt intimate and personal. O’Brien was joined on the bill by Connecticut rapper, producer, and songwriter Kevin George, and Vanyaland’s Emily Gardner was in the room and all over it to capture visuals of both performances.
