Any discussion on the greatest cover song of all time is not complete without Natalie Imbruglia’s forever unfuckwithable rendition of Ednaswap’s “Torn,” which holds up decades later as one of the defining relics of the long-gone ’90s era. Ednaswap’s OG turns 30 this year (hello aging!), and Imbruglia’s hits that milestone in two years. Meanwhile, Weakened Friends have unleashed their noisy take on the classic, and it just feels like a perfect match for the Portland trio. “This song was way too fun to play live, so we decided to record it!” the band relays via Insta, adding in a later post: “Sharing this song is the iceberg tippy tip of all things we’ve got stewing here at team WF. So listen to it, share it, play it for your pets or house plants, scare your mom with the first chorus drop, and mostly just cathartically scream along to it.” The rebooted “Torn” also comes correct with a tour video, and hey, that’s what’s goin’ on.
