For those of a certain age, returning from the record store in 1994 and placing Helmet’s Betty into the CD tray and pressing “play” for the first time was a transformative experience. Now Page Hamilton’s influential alternative metal band takes the iconic record out for a 30th anniversary tour, and tonight (March 20) it fills the Paradise Rock Club, the night after hosting Quicksand, no less, with its incendiary sound.
The record will be played in full, from “Wilma’s Rainbow” to “Sam Hell,” alongside some of Helmet’s classics and favorites. And special guests Slomosa and War on Women are on for support.
“I swore off anniversary tours after Meantime & Betty 20th celebrations, but we worked with our former label to re-release Betty in the U.S. and decided to,” Hamilton admits. “We’re stoked to perform the entire Betty album for the last time. It’s been 30 years since we released it; we just did a U.S. limited edition version that includes songs that were not on the original release. See you soon.”
