On the strength of an EP and a handful of singles, Blusher are building a reputation for creating kaleidoscopic music for our escapist reality. After they first crashed our V playlists in the fall with the feverish rave-pop cruiser “Somebody New,” the Australian dance-pop trio are back this week with a radiant new track that finds power in friendship. It’s called “Racer,” and it hit the streams yesterday (March 5) via Atlantic Records/Warner Music Australia, complete with an official visualizer viewed below.
As Blusher shift their creative gears into overdrive, “Racer” finds the group rallying around their personal bond as they once again head out to the nightclubs. And they’ll be doing just that here in Boston, as they open for NOTD on March 22 at Big Night Live.
“Racer” should sound massive in the North Station venue, one that prioritizes the type of beats n’ treats Blusher are known for. But before the gig arrives, it’s good to get a handle on just what “Racer” is all about.
“Being a ‘Racer’ means being your own stunt person, the main character of your own life,” Blusher declare. “It’s being the person to start the dance floor while the rest of the party is worrying about what people think.”
They add: “The song was written the morning after we went to a secret rave in downtown LA. We danced under a bridge and watched as people lit off fireworks from its highest point. The next day, sleep deprived and inspired, we bottled that feeling of euphoria and ‘Racer’ was born. We want ‘Racer’ to be the song that people turn up loud when they’re feeling sad or stressed, that helps them strut into the most unfazed, unstoppable, fastest version of themselves. It’s ultimately about our friendship and how we bring out the ‘Racer’ in each other.”
