We love a new era. And we especially love when that aforementioned new era finds a pop queen coming back for her throne. Enter Marina, the distinguished British alternative royalty who returns with an inspired bounce and an even higher beat through the sprawling “Butterfly,” her first release since 2022.

The dramatic, house-infused, hall-of-mirrors psychedelic pop banger hit the streams this past Friday (February 21), the first offering from Marina’s forthcoming sixth album, and swirls around themes of rebirth and new beginnings. It’s fit for both the packed indie dance floor as well as the bedroom parties for one.

In addition to marking Marina’s comeback, the wide reach of “Butterfly’s” pop mosaic wink sets up the former Diamonds-slinger for a wealth of upcoming North American festival dates, including appearances at Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival (April 11 and 18); The Governors Ball (June 7); Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival (June 13); and elsewhere.

But like all good things, before we say hello again, we gotta say goodbye, as Marina sings: “So I’m saying goodbye, goodbye / Watch me grow from afar as I turn into a butterfly / Now I’m leaving you behind / Yeah I’m a butterfly / You just never see my energy / I’m already high floating on a breeze / Butterfly, fly high.”

Hold close this energy for ’25.
