It just feels like yesterday that all the shelves at your local drugstore were stacked to the gills with Lindt Santas, candy canes, and bags of whatever novelty mold Reese’s decided to use to shape their peanut butter cups in this Christmas season. Now, it’s all over — a brand new year, with only the bitter cold left to comfort you after the warmth of the holiday season — and all you’ve got to look forward to are MLK Day basketball games and, of course, Valentine’s Day.
It’s shaping up to be a pretty scary one, as well — lots of horror options will hit the multiplex in the weeks before February 14, but only one of the offerings is holiday-themed. That’s Josh Ruben’s Heart Eyes, in which a masked killer targeting couples in L-U-V sets his sights on two co-workers who are strictly platonic at the worst possible time. Ruben’s known to horror fans for making the surprisingly-dope Werewolves Within, and as this trailer Sony dropped on Tuesday shows, this should be a pretty good way to soothe those lonely hearts.
Peep it:
Here’s a short-and-sweet synopsis:
“When the Heart Eyes Killer strikes Seattle, a pair of co-workers pulling overtime on Valentine’s Day are mistaken for a couple by the elusive couple-hunting killer. Now they must spend the most romantic night of the year running for their lives.”
Heart Eyes hits theaters on February 7 — a perfect occasion for your goth partner to pull out that eau du Nosferatu we wrote about a few months ago so that they can smell their best at the theater for your bloody good Valentine’s Day date night, and it’s going to be dope pre-gaming for your visit to the leather-and-latex night at your local industrial bar. Ah, even fellow weirdos can’t help but be saps on Valentine’s Day, huh?
