Thanks to Moon Base One, the Massachusetts music community has reason to pop some post-New Year’s champagne. The organizers behind the forthcoming Salem venue have announced an opening date of Friday, February 7, with the Boston bands Mallcops, 5ever, and Pintail scheduled to christen the performance space.
The show is the first of four slated for Moon Base One’s opening weekend, which will serve as a continuous benefit for the new venue. The festivities will continue on Saturday, February 8 with two performances — a matinee and evening show — followed by another matinee on Sunday, February 9. The stacked starting lineup features an array of local rock acts, ranging from a stripped-down acoustic set from Cape Crush to the whiplash emo of New Forms.
News of Moon Base One arrived late last year, when the North Shore nonprofit Moon announced their plans to transform an Artists’ Row stall into Greater Salem’s only all-ages music venue. Located on Derby Street in downtown Salem, the new cultural hub continues Moon’s work of amplifying North Shore artists.
