Editor’s Note: The fact that we’ve already arrived at November is both mind boggling and frustrating, for a myriad of different reasons, but while you try to find where all the time has gone this past year, here’s to hoping we can help you find something to laugh at along the way. To help soothe all the seasonal panic that comes with preparing for two weeks of pretty landscapes and then months of snowfall that seems to linger until “Smarch,” the one constant throughout all the seasons is comedy, and that is one thing that keeps on flowing like the finest PSL on tap. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to show up, night after night. To help you make sense of all of the wonderful options, enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below, find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (November 10).
Ian Bagg at Laugh Boston
In terms of natural joke writers, I an Bagg is one of the best. In terms of joke delivery, he’s also one of the best. Long story short, do yourself a favor and catch one of the more under-the-radar comedy killers in the game today. Commanding the stage with an undeniable flair for getting into the cracks with zero worry of pissing off his audience, Bagg is one of the most genuine acts you’ll see around, so get in there while he’s in town.
IAN BAGG :: Friday, November 8 and Saturday, November 9 at Laugh Boston, 425 Summer St. in Boston, MA :: 6 and 9 p.m. both nights, $33 :: Advance tickets
Brian Regan at The Wilbur
What can be said about Brian Regan that hasn’t already been said? He’s simply one of the best in the game, even after more than 30 years in the game. With every visit he makes to Boston, he seems to still elevate his game with the depth of his perspective and thought process, all the while maintaining the ability to keep things clean, straight forward, and palatable for everyone in the room.
BRIAN REGAN :: Friday, November 8 and Saturday, November 9 at The Wilbur Theatre, 246 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: 6 p.m., $55 to $69 :: Advance tickets
Chris Porter at Laugh Boston
Never having been one to really mince words, Chris Porter only keeps getting bolder in his approach, thus churning out potent jokes and punchlines at such a high frequency, that the amount of silence is only getting smaller with each new hour. We don’t really know where he pulls these observations and musings from, but we’re here for it, and perhaps for just a Sunday night in the Seaport, you could be too.
CHRIS PORTER :: Sunday, November 10 at Laugh Boston, 425 Summer St. in Boston, MA :: 6 p.m., $25 :: Advance tickets
David Cross at Royale
If there’s one comedian who can get us through the post-election insanity with equal parts articulated tact and outright verbal middle fingers, it’s David Cross. Returning to the city with an all-new hour, alongside the familiar face of Sean Patton, Cross continues to cement his place as a living legend of the craft, and we’re hoping a return to his comedy roots in Boston brings even more of a spark to the show.
DAVID CROSS :: Sunday, November 10 at Royale, 279 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: 7 p.m., $49.50 to $74.50 :: Advance tickets
