G-Eyez has boiled the wisdom of every success-themed book, think piece, and podcast down to a single verse: “When they value what you speak / They start promoting the dream.”
The “they” he’s referring to is his fans, the target audience of his new video “Make Em Like Me.” The Cambridge artist presents the no-frills visual — which accompanies his summer single of the same name — as a token of appreciation for his core listeners, dressed up as a classic G-Eyez declaration of confidence. Following an exclusive release via the streaming platform Red Coral Universe, the video arrived on YouTube today (October 17), treating fans to new material ahead of his forthcoming project To Know Me Is To Love Me.
But unlike most in-between-albums content, which solely serves to build hype and warm up an artist’s algorithm, “Make Em Like Me” is a pure gesture of gratitude.
“I intentionally did not put a lot of ‘rollout’ strategy into this release, as I usually do with all other previously released music, because I wanted an organic reaction,” he tells Vanyaland. “I also did not have ‘radio single/friendly’ intentions for this track. This was intended for the core G-Eyez fanbase who have been riding with me through thick and thin!”
