There’s not a whole lot of time left in 2024, but something hit the inboxes of music writers everywhere today that had us all collectively looking at the calendar: Lauren Mayberry is releasing a solo record “later this year.”

That exciting tidbit was included with the CHVRCHES vocalist’s new solo single “Something In The Air,” which is said to be taken from Mayberry’s forthcoming debut solo album Vicious Creature, released via Island Records. And if it sounds anything like this joyful and jubilant new track, it should be an inspired listen.

Though the meaning of the song is not totally in-line with its sound, as there’s a little bit of a dark cloud hovering over the sunny parts.

“‘Something In The Air’ is a song that really came out of nowhere,” says Mayberry. “I was in London finishing another song with my friend, co-writer and producer Dan McDougall. We were taking a break in the shared kitchen in the studio complex when a pretty iconic British musician, who I won’t throw under the bus here, came in and started making conversation about electricity, 5G and how it’s making us all sick. Dan and I went for a walk around the block before going back to the studio and were unpacking those theories, and why people want to believe them — and the chorus lyric just appeared.”

Oooh, wonder who that “iconic” musician was?! Fire up “Something In The Air” below. And keep checking those calendars.
