Editor’s Note: Welcome to V3 Weekend, Vanyaland‘s guide to help you sort out your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations across our three pillars of MusicComedy, and Film/TV. It’s what you should know about, where you need to be, and where you’ll be going, with us riding shotgun along the way.

Music: Great Scott at O’Brien’s Pub

A few weeks back news broke that Great Scott would be returning to Allston Rock City, relocating down Harvard Avenue to a newly constructed space in the building off Cambridge Street that currently houses O’Brien’s Pub. The relaunched venue won’t open until 2026, but the live gig celebrations start this weekend, as Sunday (September 22) kicks off a week-long series appropriately dubbed Great Scott at O’Brien’s. Sunday’s show features GYMSHORTS and Dutch Tulips, and the rest of the week showcases a spectrum of Boston’s finest, with multiple homegrown bands and artists each night. “Great Scott is back in Allston for 7 nights with old friends and new,” O’Brien’s homepage states. “Expect live music and comedy, good times, and a sneak peek into future plans for both clubs. This is where incredible friendships begin.” Keep it locked to the Great Scott Insta for updates as the week unfolds.

GREAT SCOTT AT O’BRIEN’S PUB :: Sunday, September 22 to Saturday, September 28 at O’Brien’s Pub, 3 Harvard Ave. in Allston, MA :: 8 p.m., 21-plus, $12 to $15 :: Event info

Comedy: Jay Mohr at Laugh Boston

Every time Jay Mohr comes to town, we’re reminded how Go remains one of the most slept-on and underrated films of the late ’90s, and it makes us feel like we just popped an ecstasy just thinking about it. So we’re tingling nicely this weekend as the comedian and actor rolls into the Seaport for a deuce at Laugh Boston tonight and Saturday (September 20 and 21). Mic’d Up takes it home: “We won’t hold it against him that he’s deeply connected to Los Angeles Lakers royalty, because Jay Mohr is still just that good at what he does. Although he hasn’t been rather loud in the realm of releases and recorded material these last few years, Mohr only continues to cement his place as a legend amidst comedy club crowds everywhere with his unshakable brand of hilarity and relatability.”

JAY MOHR :: Friday, September 20 and Saturday, September 21 at Laugh Boston, 425 Summer St. in Boston, MA :: 7 and 10 p.m., $33 :: Advance tickets

Film/TV: We Are Fugazi From Washington, DC at The Brattle

They say you can’t hear words, but if we type out “Waiting Room” by Fugazi, you are probably hearing the bassline run through your head before this sentence even finishes. It’ll now be on a mental loop all weekend at The Brattle hosts a premiere screening of We Are Fugazi From Washington, DC, the 2023 film on Ian MacKaye’s groundbreaking post-hardcore band. Created to mark the 20th anniversary of Fugazi’s last live performance, it’s billed as a “96-minute collage comprising crowd-sourced, fan-recorded live shows, and other rare footage of the revered performers,” curated by Joe Gross, Joseph Pattisall and Jeff Krulik. They say not to call it a documentary, and hey that’s cool. But we’re wondering, has anyone ever opened up a pit at The Brattle?

‘WE ARE FUGAZI FROM WASHINGTON, DC’ :: Friday, September 20 to Sunday, September 22 at The Brattle, 40 Brattle St. in Cambridge, MA :: Friday at 10 p.m., Saturday at 4:45 and 9 p.m., and Sunday at 2:30 and 9 p.m. :: Event info and tickets
