Mic’d Up: Sam Jay, Monica Carroll, Brian Glowacki, Dan Boulger

Via The Wilbur

Editor’s NoteAs the dogs days of summer get further away in the rearview, and the crisp, creeping wind of fall sneaks in overnight, it’s time to start thinking about bringing things back indoors to stay warm and entertained to stave off the insanity of the upcoming darker, colder months in New England. That’s where comedy can help you out, and boy oh boy, do we have a ton of it coming through town every week. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to show up, night after night. To help you make sense of all of the wonderful options, enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below, find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (September 8).

Monica Carroll at White Bull Tavern

With both a slow burn delivery and a lightning quick wit, Monica Carroll’s brand of comedy hits hard no matter the subject. No topic is off-limits, and she writes her jokes with a precision that others could only hope to obtain themselves, and she only throws down the best of the best when it comes to slinging jokes around New England. She is, hands-down, one of the region’s best comedy exports, and you it’s a treat whenever she makes her way to a stage like that at The White Bull.

MONICA CARROLL :: Friday, September 6 at White Bull Tavern, 1 Union St. in Boston, MA :: 7:30 p.m., $22.50 :: Advance tickets

Sam Jay at The Wilbur

Not everyone can look Tom Brady in the eyes, verbally eviscerate the sculpted football icon, and still make their way back to Boston to a raucous applause — but Sam Jay is just that special, and a homecoming with the Dorchester native is never something to miss. With her latest hour in tow, Jay has quite a bit of stuff to comb through after a full year of touring and other creative opportunities that have made the stand-up powerhouse all the more powerful.

SAM JAY :: Saturday, September 7 at The Wilbur Theatre, 246 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: 6 p.m., $26 to $36 :: Advance tickets

Brian Glowacki at Roar! Comedy Club

There’s just no stopping the BGlow train. Whether he’s back home on the crooked coast, or cruising his way through the sticks of Central and Western Mass, Brian Glowacki has been on a full-on tear in 2024 with no signs of slowing down. There’s a reason for that, too, as the Nantucket native only continues to bring nothing but highly relatable and outright potent comedy to every audience he steps in front of.

BRIAN GLOWACKI :: Saturday, September 7 at Roar! Comedy Club, 1 MGM Way in Springfield, MA :: 8 p.m., $25 :: Advance tickets

Dan Boulger at 400 East

As one of the constant stand-up staples in the scene for nearly two decades, Dan Boulger is keeping the good times rolling as he brings his unshakable brand of comedy to the east this weekend with a trio of fellow comedy crushers in Sam Buck, Mary Beth Collins and Chris Houghton. All of those laughs for $15 is beyond a steal if you’re looking for a night on the town during some last minute summer vacation time.

DAN BOULGER :: Friday, January 26 and Saturday, January 27 at 400 East, 1421 Orleans-Harwich Rd. #21 in Harwich, MA :: 7 p.m., $15 :: Advance tickets
