Allie Cuva has done it all — and has even more to try. The Detroit-born, Nashville-educated, New York-based multi-hyphenate, who self-describes as a “songwriter, producer, mix engineer and multi-instrumentalist performer,” first set out on her own in 2020 with her project allie. This past Tuesday (August 27), she shared “Every Dog,” the latest single from her upcoming album of the same name due September 27.
“Every Dog” strikes perfectly bittersweet, a fitting send-off to summer as we look ahead to the colder, quieter days of fall. Acoustic guitars and gentle percussion accompany Cuva’s not-quite-whispery soft voice as she sings of the joys and pains of big life changes. The track feels emotionally intimate, well-suited for long contemplative walks — she even closes the song by wishing that “the sun shine down on you wherever you go.”
“I wanted to create something that felt flickering,” Cuva says, “and that also evolved to deliver the listener somewhere different than expected, which was meant to represent big, structural change in a relationship.”
As a bonus, the release of “Every Dog” was accompanied by a music video, which of course offers up some near-obligatory good dog content alongside home-video-style footage of allie and friends at spots around Long Island. Check it out.
