Life is funny sometimes. Earlier today, feeling the heat of the season, we pulled up Jane’s Addiction’s “Summertime Rolls” for the first time in ages to soundtrack our endless workday. An hour later, a new track from the iconic alternative band hits our inbox — and it’s the classic lineup’s first new Jane’s Addiction material in 34 years.

The new single, hitting the streams with a fury today (July 24), is called “Imminent Redemption,” and it has a vibe very much like the Los Angeles band’s Nothing’s Shocking era (though maybe that’s because were just listening to it). The rumbling and mountainous tune features vocalist Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins, and bassist Eric Avery. It was recorded at Sweetzwerland Studios in Hollywood, and it just oozes out of the speakers.

“It is different this time,” says the band in a statement. “To have everyone back together, releasing new music. It’s time. Welcome to the next chapter of Jane’s Addiction. ‘Imminent Redemption’ is only the beginning.”

The reunited and reloaded Jane’s Addiction will hit the road in the coming weeks for a co-headlining tour with Love & Rockets. And with this new jam comes a refreshed feeling that Jane’s Addiction is not just a nostalgia act. The run hits Boston’s Leader Bank Pavilion on September 13, and it suddenly feels like a highlight on the calendar.
