Cryogeyser dive into the the noisy intricacies of relationships with ‘Sorry’

A few years ago when we were hosting pool parties in the Fenway, we’d normally run into an ex or two up and down Boylston Street. It happens everywhere, and not just a fishbowl of a city like Boston. It’s a normal human exprience that treats everyone relatively differently. Sometimes it’s as cool as the water we’re about to dive into; other times, it’s anything but.

The next time we find ourselves in a situation like that, we’ll turn to “Sorry,” the riffy and blissfully noisy new tune from Los Angeles trio Cryogeyser. The trio of guitarist and vocalist Shawn Marom, drummer and producer Zach CapittiFenton, and bassist Samson Klitsner dropped the track today (July 22), and it represents a bit of a new era for the band. “Sorry” is the first release with CapittiFenton and Klitsner as members, and their first self-produced work since 2019 debut album Glitch.

“’Sorry’ is the song that plays at the pool party your ex is at,” says Marom. “The rage and discomfort become an internal war, asking yourself, ‘Did I do the best I could? Could I have done it differently?’… ‘Sorry’ is about not being sorry. It’s a tongue-in-cheek homage to the intricacies of relationships and communication, especially in conflict. ‘Sorry’ reminds you to be yourself, forgive yourself, and embrace yourself. Welcome change but never change. It also touches on the expectations we put on others, ourselves, and our artistic practices. Wondering if the failure or rejection could ever be avoided. If we knew then, what we know now, things would be much different than this.”

We think that a lot when on Boylston Street, regardless of who we run into. Dive in to the Jaxon Whittington-directed video and put “Sorry” on your ex’s secret playlist without haste.
