Damndest sink into a post-punk limbo with new single ‘The Blight’

Go ahead, accuse us of actively spreading a blight, but the new tune from Damndest deserves to infect the masses’ headphones. The Boston band cultivates a droning slice of stoicism with their second-ever single “The Blight,” which arrived last week (July 5).

As vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Timothy O’Keefe explains, the song purposefully slithers between styles, evoking a post-punk limbo.

“The overall structure and vibe of the song was based around an idea of switching between light and fluffy to drenched in noise,” he tells Vanyaland. “At this point, I don’t remember if it was that idea that inspired the lyrics, or the lyrics that inspired that idea, but they seem to fit well together.”

Notes backing vocalist Alana Sacks: “In adding backups, I wanted to echo that fitful fatalism that I felt in Tim’s voice and lyrics and in the groan of the guitars.”

While the track arrives in the midst of some scorchers in Massachusetts, it’s fated to be a fall staple; “The Blight” plays like a lithe time lapse of decay. Tune in below.
