Wait, there’s a trailer for a new ‘Hellboy’ movie out?

Color us absolutely astonished, but apparently you can’t keep a good demon down: There’s a brand-new Hellboy movie — entitled Hellboy: The Crooked Man coming out later this year, and the first trailer dropped earlier on Monday (July 1).

Now, if you haven’t followed the weird adventures of the Big Red One on screen, it’s understandable that you might be wondering where Ron Perlman or David Harbour are. And, sadly, they’re not involved in this new movie — the man under all that makeup is Jack Kesy, after all — and it’s just another of one of the litany of strange fucking things to happen with this franchise over the last two decades. You start off with Del Toro making two (pretty damn good) films out of it, Neil Marshall making a pretty shitty one, and now Brian Taylor — he of Crank: High Voltage fame — is taking a stab at it, with Hellboy creator Mike Mignola writing the script.

And you know what? Based on their names alone, we’re gonna probably be lining up for this one on opening day.

Here’s a synopsis, courtesy of EW, but you could always go out and read some of the comics, because they’re fabulous:

“Based on the comic-book miniseries of the same name by Mignola and artist Richard Corben, ‘Hellboy: The Crooked Man’ is set in the 1950s and costars Adeline Rudolph (‘Resident Evil’) as a rookie agent of the BPRD (the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense) who teams up with Hellboy to protect the residents of Appalachia from the creepy Crooked Man, who is collecting souls for the devil.”

Anyway, Hellboy: The Crooked Man will somehow hit theaters on September 19. We’re just stunned it made it this far into production without anybody really knowing about it — not that it’s a bad thing. Stealth drops work for Nike, right?
