Editor’s Note: Welcome to V3 Weekend, Vanyaland‘s guide to help you sort out your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations across our three pillars of MusicComedy, and Film/TV. It’s what you should know about, where you need to be, and where you’ll be going, with us riding shotgun along the way.

Music: BAMS Fest at Franklin Park

Over the past half-decade, BAMS Fest has proven to be one of the more dependable and important music festivals in the city. This year’s event holds court over two days (June 29 and 30) at the expansive Playstead Field at Franklin Park, and the sixth annual Boston Art & Music Soul Festival delivers a solid program of homegrown and national acts spanning R&B, funk, soul, hip-hop, house and more. Leading the lineup are Grammy-nominated Roc Nation rapper Rapsody and R&B singer-songwriter BJ the Chicago Kid, with performances by Vanyaland faves Nay $peaks and Bia Javier, as well as Xavier Omär, Bryan-Michael Cox, Butcher Brown, Albino Mbie, Karim, and more. There’s also the visual art exhibition Rep Your City, a Vendor Village showcasing local Black-owned businesses, dance programs, the Kidchella stage for local youth recording and performing artists, and Soul Food Row’s food truck offering. Comedy: Laurie Kilmartin at Off Cabot

Well, we might as well go for the Laurie Kilmartin hat trick here ahead of the Emmy-nominated CONAN writer’s two-night swing at Off Cabot in Beverly tonight and tomorrow (June 28 and 29). First we hyped Kilmartin’s shows in Mic’d Up; then we chatted with her about the specifics; and now we’re filling out V3 Weekend with some love. Here’s Mic’d Up: “Buckle up, because things are about to get dark. With a penchant for bringing the darkness to light, Kilmartin returns to the North Shore with a new dose of reality and creative napalm that is still lingering from her most recent special. As long as the world keeps turning, Kilmartin is sure to continue turning out dangerously sharp and hilarious takes that seek to destroy as much as they seek to bring the room down with laughs.”

LAURIE KILMARTIN :: Friday, June 28 to Saturday, June 29 at Off Cabot, 9 Wallis St. in Beverly, MA :: 7 p.m., $35 :: Advance tickets

Film/TV: ‘Bottoms’ at the Loring Greenough House

Free summer movie season is here, and there’s a lot of silver screen action all over the city from now through Labor Day. We’re starting our V3 Weekend program with a screening of Emma Seligman’s 2023 high school teen comedy Bottoms, showing tonight (June 28) at the Loring Greenough House lawn in Jamaica Plain. The fourth season of its Friday Night Movies series also features Paris Is Burning (July 26), Jaws (August 23), My Neighbor Totoro (September 21), and more. Admission is $7 for the general public, and tickets benefit the Loring Greenough House, a preserved historic home and event venue built in 1760. All screenings are BOYB — “bring your own blankets,” and space is first come, first serve. As for Bottoms, hit the trailer below for all the Rachel Sennott goodness; she co-wrote the film with Seligman.
