In the age of multi-band touring packages, Dan Boeckner brings the same kind of heat under one singular performance. The prolific musician released new album Boeckner!, his first under his own name, in March via Sub Pop Records, and now shows it off on spring tour that arrives at Brighton Music Hall in Allston tonight (June 10).
This tour features, according to the label, “material from the new album along with deep cuts and highlights from Operators, Handsome Furs, Divine Fits, and Wolf Parade catalog.” And that makes for one intriguing show, pairing his classic material with the exciting new stuff.
“I think in a lot of ways in my mind I’m still playing in a punk band in Vancouver,” says Boeckner. “Starting back when I was a teenager, my life in music has been trying to develop my own musical language, and this record is the beginning of presenting that… This record is like an autobiography — Atlas Strategic music concrete synth explosions, lush synth stuff from Operators, the noise guitar from Handsome Furs, drawing influence from everything from Stockhausen to Tom Waits all at the same time.”
Dig it.
