Queens of the Stone Age, The End is Nero, September 28

Earlier this week we broke the news of Queens of the Stone Age’s upcoming mini-tour, which kicks off at Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway on September 28. Vanyaland got on the horn with QOTSA keyboardist/guitarist Dean Fertita for the exclusive scoop on the dates, with The Kills on board, the latest in support of desert rock icons album In Times New Roman… and final shows on their ongoing The End is Nero Tour. “We’re comin’ to Boston to start a few weeks in the States,” he says. “Boston will be the first and that was the second show of this entire tour for the record, so it’ll be nice to do a proper Boston show.” Fertita added that the band is able to flex its catalog muscle a bit with these headlining gigs, as ooposed to festival appearances: “I don’t want to say we’ve never thought about or cared about that too much, because we always just wanted to play our show – no matter what. But I think we’ve been experimenting with that a little bit when we do these festival shows and sort of knowing what people want to hear and what they’re there for and they’ve been standing outside all day, so you kinda are aware when you are writing a set. When we do our own shows, and we know that people have been with us from the start, we can kind of get into some deeper album cuts. Actually, sometimes, the weirder the better.” Tickets go on sale on Friday (June 7) at 10 a.m. local time.
