This Show Is Tonight: Katie Pruitt delivers her ‘Mantras’ to Allston

We have a new mantra for 2024, and we’ve been honoring it so far: Listen to Katie Pruitt. The Nashville singer-songwriter and her incredible voice and knack for engaged storytelling released sophomore album Mantras in April, not too long after capturing our attention with a slow-burning indie-folk hymnal called “White Lies, White Jesus And You.” The enchanting track immediately landed on our inaugural V List roundup of January’s best songs.

“White Lies, White Jesus And You” is likely be revisited in December when we publish our Year in ReView collection, and more immediately, it should sound amazing tonight (May 7) when Pruitt plays Brighton Music Hall in Allston.

Mantras will be on full display, and this feels like the last chance to catch the artist in such an intimate venue. Pruitt is ready for divine elevation.

“Writing this record forced me to stop seeking external validation from the rest of the world & turn my focus inward,” Pruitt writes on Insta. “After hitting a low point that caused me to seek extensive therapy I realized that I had a problem with negative self talk. So I started writing down phrases of encouragement & repeating mantras in the mirror. Through this practice I learned to be a kinder friend to myself & therefore a kinder friend to others. I’m so proud of this record & the community of friends I created it with…”
