We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Channing Tatum fucking rocks. Sure, he stumbled around a bit when he was first coming on to the scene, but the dude did what few actors are able to do — he leaned into his past, made magic (Mike, that is), and became a superstar who’s able to work in an astonishing amount of genres. Normally, he’s best suited to comedic roles (the guy has made more successful comedies than most of this generation’s “icons”), but in Blink Twice, he’s going “evil rich guy on a private island” mode and tormenting Naomi Ackie.
This thriller comes to us from Zoe Kravitz, who’s making her directorial debut here, and honestly, it looks pretty swell, at least from the trailer that MGM dropped on Tuesday. Honestly, it’s a match made in heaven with the late-August release date. Just think about it: It’s late summer, you’ve seen Alien: Romulus already, and you’re in need of some AC and popcorn — what better way to get there than with some Channing Tatum villainy?
Peep it:
Here’s a synopsis:
“When tech billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum) meets cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie) at his fundraising gala, sparks fly. He invites her to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on his private island. It’s paradise. Wild nights blend into sun soaked days and everyone’s having a great time. No one wants this trip to end, but as strange things start to happen, Frida begins to question her reality. There is something wrong with this place. She’ll have to uncover the truth if she wants to make it out of this party alive.“
Blink Twice hits theaters on August 23. Support our dude Channing, y’all. Who else would put a Dandys drop in a major release these days?
