The Palms, August 10
Even way up here in the frigid and standoffish Northeast, we can appreciate some sweet California vibes — especially in the care-free summer. So we welcome the return of The Palms, the Los Angeles DIY duo of Johnny Zambetti and Ben Rothbard, who just dropped new album Wonderland this month. The Palms’ warm cocktail of indie, West Coast psychedelia, hip-hop, folk, and everything else will be on vivid display on August 10 at Brighton Music Hall in Allston. “As a whole, Wonderland is a portal into our own existence and our attempt at making sense of the wild world around us over the last three years,” say The Palms. “If each song acts as a story filled with questions and lessons, ‘Phases,’ the final track on Wonderland, is a subtle resolution to the eleven songs preceding it and a reminder that this journey is but a series of chapters and episodes. As brutal and defeating as life can appear, ‘this too shall pass’ and it is up to us to find beauty and meaning in the lesson.” Good stuff. Tickets go on sale Friday (April 19) at 10 a.m. local time.
