The Marías, The Submarine Tour, August 11
“Ahhhhhhhhh we get to see you and hold you again???” A message like that can come from anyone, but it means something special when it comes from one of three particular sources: A mother, a lover, or The Marías. Luckily for us, that last one checks the box on Insta as the bilingual Los Angeles indie-pop band unveils The Submarine Tour, which snakes its way to Boston for an August 11 party at MGM Music Hall at Fenway. The tour is named for May album submarine, which showcases the psychedelic-soul group’s penchant for genre blending. “Submarine is an album that represents solitude and exploration,” writes María Zardoya. “We wrote it in the throws of heartbreak, my mind spiraling at each turn, my vision a blur. No one noticed, but there were moments during the writing process where I felt like my mind was underwater and where I couldn’t hear anything except for the echo of my own thoughts. i’ve come out on the other side of that headspace with more clarity than ever and with a project that i’ve never been more proud of. When you’re ready to listen to it, throw some headphones on, find a quiet place where you can be with your inner world and dive in without looking back.” In other words, let it hold you. Tickets go on sale Friday (April 19) at 10 a.m. local time.
