We’re a few slutty weeks into spring, and in our frigid corner of the world there is still snow on the ground. So it makes sense that we’re already skipping the gateway season and looking ahead to summer. And so with that mentality we need a soundtrack, and delivering the vibe of sunny days and carefree nights is Good Neighbours, a new English duo stirring up on steady cocktail of colorful sound not far from the DNA lines of MGMT, Passion Pit, and Glass Animals.
Following up on their breakout jam “Home,” the twosome of Scott Verrill and Oli Fox unveiled “Keep It Up” this past Friday (April 5) via Some Action / Neon Gold / Avenue A, and it’s a glistening indie-pop tune of early-aughts euphoria sparkle that makes us wonder if its best release format is the mp3.
Entirely replayable, “Keep It Up” is drenched in an upbeat mood and a sun-kissed street-walkin’ strut, and described as a pep-talk in a song, offering up encouragement to those feeling down — whether it be because of the weather or anything else, yeah.
“’Keep It Up’ felt like the birth of the band; we wrote this track about 20 mins after Oli had just been fired from one of his four part-time jobs at the time,” the duo declare. “It was a bleak time, but this was the song that we needed to hear to give ourselves some joy and optimism. We wrote it, and Good Neighbours was born.”
Just 73 days until summer arrives.
