Kneecap are an absolute whirlwind. The Irish hip-hop trio from Belfast has taken the world by storm — selling out tours everywhere, taking stands against oppression, playing festivals like Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds, and gaining the Michael Fassbender-starring feature film treatment. Even the Dropkicks invited them over for St. Patrick’s Day. Now their debut album Fine Art arrives in June via Heavenly Recordings, ahead of a fall tour that plays the Paradise Rock Club on September 21. Our word from last fall: “Kneecap have stirred up the shit across the Atlantic with their fierce stance of Irish unification and republicanism, giving a voice to those who wish for one Ireland. But the West Belfast crew are also keen to speak loudly in support of the working class and the struggles of common person, and do so in a mix of the Irish and English language that creates a potent cocktail of mindful fury. Kneecap are a true cultural phenomenon, one rooted in ‘community, craic, and defiance’, weaponizing their potent lyricisms and high-energy live shows to spark rebellion and change.” Get on board.
