It’s been a hot minute since we last caught up with Waterparks, but we have the ability to make up for lost time tonight (March 13) in Boston. The genre-hopping pop-rock Houston trio crash MGM Music Hall at Fenway this evening with our homegirl sophie powers and Loveless, the latest stop on the Sneaking out of Heaven Tour that showcases last fall’s Intellectual Property album.
But Waterparks are not resting chill, as they just collaborated with alt-pop riser phem for a somersaulting new single called “cheerleader.” Yeah, sure alright, we probably won’t hear it tonight, but the show in town gives us a good excuse to hype it.
“It came together pretty organically,” says phem. “i posted a snippet of me singing the song on my insta and then awsten [Knight] hit me up about it.. he said he really liked it.. which was like the biggest compliment in the world. waterparks had already had me on both their US and European tour, so it was cool to finally make some art together.. he’s unbelievable in so many ways. i really look up to him as an artist and songwriter.. he inspires me to push myself and keep improving. he’s the real deal… it’s an honor to have him on my song.”
Check the track and video below, and get there early for powers, who we chatted with late last year before the holiday break.
