Editor’s NoteWe aren’t exactly sure where the first few months of the year have gone, but that level of internal panic only makes us want to continue to do the Lord’s work by giving you something to smile (or groan, wince, or gasp) at. With homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlighting the calendar, the plethora of powerful comedy throughout the commonwealth continues to show up, night after night. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below, find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (March 10).

Sam Morril at The Wilbur

Coming back through town to record his next special, Sam Morril is at the top of his game. Whether it’s behind the mic of clubs or theaters, or that of a number of podcasts, the New York stand-up fan favorite has put in quite the amount of work while still on the grind to bring his laidback approach to level-headed observations to the masses, and it will surely show once more as he pushes “record” on his latest hour.

SAM MORRIL :: Thursday, March 7 and Friday, March 8 at The Wilbur, 246 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: 6:30 and 9 p.m. both nights, $33 to $40 :: Advance tickets

Marc Maron at Chevalier Theatre

His last hour was quite dark, but if there’s anyone who can go even darker, it’s Marc Maron. That’s not to say his new show will be darker when he lands in Medford, but the comedy veteran’s skill set flashes many layers of artistic approach that only continue to get better and stronger as he gets older and generally more pissed off about the nonsense he’s seeing every day. In many ways, he’s a modern-day philosopher when it comes to teaching the ways of telling it like it is, and we’re truly better for having listened to him.

MARC MARON :: Friday, March 8 at The Chevalier Theatre, 30 Forest St. in Medford, MA :: 6 p.m., $49.50 to $69.50 :: Advance tickets

Bobcat Goldthwait at Off Cabot

As a pillar of comedy, Goldthwait continues to be as much of a student of the game as he is a teacher to generations of comedians who have watched him work his magic at the mic and behind the camera for decades. Sure, he’s pretty much mastered his own avenue of creative and comedic approach, but with every visit he pays to the area, there always seems to be at least one new piece to the ever-expanding puzzle that is his mind, and that’s just a beautiful thing that you don’t want to miss.

BOBCAT GOLDTHWAIT :: Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9 at Off Cabot, 9 Wallis St. in Beverly, MA :: 5:30 and 8 p.m. both nights, $35 :: Advance tickets
