Valentine’s Day may officially be behind us, but that warm, fuzzy feeling of love doesn’t have to be. Phoenix shoegazers Glixen are here with a heartwarming fix in the form of “foreversoon,” their first single off of a forthcoming EP via AWAL. The release, out this past Friday (February 9) follows 2023’s She Only Said EP.
On “foreversoon,” Glixen take their signature hazy distortion and add a hefty edge to it. After an unassuming count in, the band immediately swings big with a heaving amalgamation of guitar and percussion — a formidable undertaking with highly enjoyable results. Lead vocalist Aislinn Ritchie enters shortly after with a much-needed lightness that adds depth to the track, singing dream-like of new love.
“‘foreversoon’ represents blissful moments of new love and intimacy,” Ritchie says. “I wanted my lyrics to feel like a conversation that expresses my infatuation and sensuality. Time is relentless and memories are fleeting, this song encapsulates those emotions forever.”
Glixen are also taking “foreversoon” on the road, currently in the middle of a Florida and southeast stateside run, supporting Softcut with a few headline dates sprinkled in. Here in Boston, they play the Crystal Ballroom in Somerville on March 7, where they’ll open for Glitterer alongside homegrown group Gollylagging.
