Anna Akana brings a little darkness, and then some, to Somerville’s Armory

Via Bill Blumenreich Presents

After a scary situation unfolded for Anna Akana, she felt no safer avenue was available aside from retiring from the stage. Now, equipped with a few years of therapy and a restraining order, she’s back with some brand new jokes, and a little of the remaining darkness to spread around.

As announced earlier this week, Akana will be making her way to Somerville’s Center for the Arts at The Armory on April 6 with her latest show, It Gets Darker. Aside from her work on stage, which took her away from a live setting for five years following a traumatic experience with a stalker, Akana has also landed a handful of acting roles over the years including Marvel’s Ant-Man, Comedy Central’s Corporate, Netflix’s Jupiter’s Legacy and her Emmy-nominated Youtube RED series, Youth & Consequences, which she executive produced and starred in.

Writer, actor and comedian Grace Kuhlenschmidt will be making her way from her home base of The Big Apple to Medford’s Deep Cuts, for one show on April 4. When she isn’t crushing on stage with her largely observational and commentary comedy, Kuhlenschmidt is not only one of the “7 comedians to watch” by way of the New York Times, but also has been recognized as a “New Face” at Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival, and has been a part of a number of on-screen projects including The Daily Show, HBO’s Search Party, Peacock’s Killing It, and Showtime’s Ziwe.

Additionally, the Are You Garbage? crew has added a 9:45 p.m. late show to their stay at The Wilbur on April 27, while Seth Meyers has tacked on another show to his own stop on Tremont Street, with a 9:45 p.m. show on May 3, bringing his total Boston show run up to four.

Tickets to these shows can be accessed via The Regulars presale, which is going on now, before you’re able to access The Wilbur’s presale starting tomorrow (February 15) at 10 a.m. ET by urging the code VANYA. General on-sale starts Friday (February 16) at 10a.m. ET.
