CD Rose dismisses bad love and ‘Flagrant’ lies in new single

For decades, filler phrases like “I guess” have sent shivers up the spines of linguistic snobs. But in the hands of CD Rose, the words are less of a mutter and more like ammunition. Facing “Flagrant” lies from a lover, the Boston artist reacts with ego-shattering apathy in her new single, released last week (February 2). “This ain’t love / I can’t be too picky and choosy / Okay, I guess,” she sings after enumerating the faults of an unnamed flame. Glossy R&B glides over Rose’s relaxed stance, as her mounting use of “I guess” conveys a more powerful dismissal than actual obscenities ever could. Who knew so-called “filler” could be such a polite “fuck you?” Tune in below.
