Boston’s music scene is nothing without the folks who work to make it special, and tonight (January 19) is one chance to give back to some of the hardest-working names in the regional game. Roxbury’s own Oompa, the hip-hop artist and founder of OUTLAUD recently deemed one of Boston Magazine’s 150 Most Influential Bostonians, will hit the stage at Somerville’s Crystal Ballroom tonight for a concert celebrating the life of her late mother.

As the artist shares on Instagram earlier this month, A Celebration of Life: A Benefit Concert for My Mom will be a “stripped back show, very vibe, very chill,” with an emphasis on lyricism. Kicking off the evening will be local artist DJ MEZ. The money raised from the event will go to helping Oompa and family pay for her mother’s funeral services and re-locating the younger siblings of the family.

OOMPA + DJ MEZ :: Friday, January 19 at Crystal Ballroom, 55 Davis Square, Somerville :: 8 p.m., all ages, $25 :: Event info :: Advance tickets
